Frequently Asked Questions (Character Creation)
These are some frequently asked questions about character creation. Please refer to this first if you have a question to see if it's already been answered.
Basics
How do I create a character? To create a character, you must write a character profile using our application. The application can be found on the Apply Here board on the forum. The profile describes your character's appearance, equipment, abilities, life history, and personality. It is expected to be well-written and expansive, revealing all necessary information to the moderators. Once you're finished, your profile will be checked over by the moderators and voted on. You may be asked to revise certain parts, or you may be approved instantly. Very rarely do we deny anyone before they have the chance to revise.
See the Character Creation section for instructions. The Application Guidebook provides step-by-step help for filling out the application.
Can I...?
What characters are open? Can I play a character from the series?Eiyuu Kishi Den expects its members to play their own original characters. We respect the continuity of the anime, which has left many canon characters unavailable as PCs. So, characters that died in the series, left for Crystania, or became royalty or nobility are not playable. Nearly all the canon characters are not playable because they have been written out in one way or another and will only appear as NPCs. You must create your own character.
Can I play a race of my own creation or from another fan universe?NO. This game strives to stay true to the continuity of Lodoss, introducing races that don't exist in that world would only complicate things. Only the races listed on the Races page are playable.
Can I use a magic system of my own devising or from another fan universe? As with the above question, NO. This has the same issues as making up another race, or bringing a race from another universe.
Can I give my character a unique power unseen in Lodoss before? In most cases, that is a resounding NO!, but we may accept some, so it may be a good idea to contact the moderators and present your idea before you post your application.
I want to play a high elf, why can't I?It was stated in the anime that Deedlit is the youngest high elf, being the only one born in the last thousand years. This means all other high elves are over 1,000 years old and too powerful as a PC. High elves are also very reclusive and don't leave their forests unless they have a very good reason. Only the youngest adventure out, and at this point, there are no elves who haven't already done so.
There are some special cases where a high elf character may be allowed, but this is only allowed with the permission of the moderators. However, if you're thinking you have no other option but to play a dark elf, or you think that common elves are too weak, think again. Common elves are not that different from high elves, they still use shamanism, but they live for a 1,000 years.
Can I play a vampire?Vampires are another special case that must be discussed with the moderators. Vampires are hard to get into an adventuring party, and we already have one plot focused on hunting vampires. If you really want to play a vampire, ask the moderators and present a concept before you post an application.
Can I play a half-vampire?No. The means for creating a half-vampire in other fantasy universes don't apply here.
Can I play a combination of vampire, were-wolf, and/or berserker? No. Any combinations of these would be too powerful. To avoid the possibility of anyone thinking that these combinations can exist, I have ruled out any possibilities on the afflictions page.
Can I play an elf or half-elf sorcerer or wizard? No, elves have shamanism by default, that magic is more than enough, and actually can be more powerful and less taxing than modern Lodoss sorcery. They would also be hard-pressed to find a mentor among humans. The biggest issue is the fact that there really are very few real mages in Lodoss as magic is being rediscovered.
Can I play a dwarf that uses magic? No to shaman or sorcerer dwarves, yes to dwarven clerics. Dwarves generally do not like magic and would be hesitant to practice it as sorcerers. They do not have the spiritual connection that elves do to be shamans. However, they are willing to use holy magic granted by the gods, though they prefer to worship the gods of light and not gods of darkness.
Can I play a human that knows shamanism?Yes, they're known as spirit messengers. Human shamans are much more spiritual than other humans and are born with a talent for shamanism. Many of them are shamans in barbarian tribes, but it rarely manifests itself in normal Lodoss society. Spirit messengers generally don't have the time elves do to learn shamanism, so there for, they may not become as powerful.
Can I play a character from another continent?Alecrast and the Azarn Islands are acceptable, though we have little information on nations of either continent. However, these continents trade with Lodoss, and Alecrast is much like Lodoss. Read the Human Cultures, and Alecrast pages for more information.
Crystania, Djana En, the Chaos Land, and Far Land are all off-limits. The seas are too treacherous between these lands to make a journey. In fact, the people of Lodoss and Alecrast know very little about this continent, and if they know anything, it's only rumors of a far off continent that no one has ever reached, or at least returned from. While Ashram's fleet did reach Crystania, they did not return.
I left the game and came back, can I continue playing my character?Usually, this is yes and we'll do our best to help you get back into the game. If a player leaves, there are a number of ways we may respond. For a character that was well integrated into a plot, a moderator or trusted player may have taken your character over. If the character wasn't well integrated into the plot, they may have been written out, or the plot may have been "rewound" to completely remove the introduction of the character. Very rarely will a character be written out by being killed off. In most cases, you should simply contact the admins and ask for advice on how to return to the game.
However, if you have a long history of coming and going in Eiyuu Kishi Den, you may not be welcomed back.
Miscellaneous
What is the point of having stats for your character if you don't use them in the game?Stats are there to provide an easy, at-a-glance way to understand a character. A written description can be somewhat vague, but assigning a value to a characteristic can clarify it.
