Physical Description
This is for a thorough paragraph that fully describes your characters appearance. There are a number of artists in EKD who draw characters, and they need to know the details of your characters to properly portray them. We do not want a list of traits, but descriptive sentences. The previous fields for height, weight, build, hair color, eye color and skin tone are for "at a glance" viewing, while this section is for an in depth description. Describe how you see your character in your minds eye. At least five sentences.
Do not mention clothing in this portion.
Points to Remember:
- Include height, weight, and build into description.
- Hair
- Mention color again.
- Describe style.
- Include length either to where it falls on the body, or length in units of measurement.
- Eyes
- Mention color again. Include any details you couldn't include earlier.
- Details on shape, eyelash length, and eyebrows.
- Skin
- Mention color again. Maybe expand on the details of the color.
- Include details like clarity of complexion, scars, and blemishes.
- If your character has a tattoo, describe the design and color(s) of ink.
- Include some details on facial structure.
Writing Requirements- At least five sentences for an unremarkable character appearance.
- Present-Tense
Example- Physical Description: Deedlit has the beauty of all high elves. To humans, she is more attractive than most of their own women, but among other elves, she's almost uniform with their beauty. She's of average height, slim like most elves, and not particularly curvaceous. She is very fair with unblemished porcelain skin, light green eyes, and pale blonde hair. Her hair falls to her thighs with loose bangs to frame her delicate face. Deedlit's eyes are almond shaped with long lashes, and thin, arched brows.

Clothing and Armor
Like with the Physical Description, this is for a thorough description of what your character wears. Please be thorough to help any artists who draw your character. Describe what they usually wear, the colors, cut, style, condition, fabric of their clothing. Describe their armor, if it is elaborately engraved or trimmed, if it is tinted, what is it made of it? Is it plain? Describe any jewelry they wear, items they carry and anything else that wont fit under physical appearance or weapon. At least 3 well-developed and descriptive sentences, and that's if your character has very simple clothes.
Points to remember
- Include shirt, pants/skirt, footwear, gloves, hats, cloaks, and every article your character wears. No need to mention undergarments.
- Mention the color of each article.
- Include lengths of shirts, pants, skirts, and cloaks and heights of boots and gloves (to where they reach on the body).
Writing Requirements- At least 3 sentences for a simple, unremarkable outfit or uniform.
- Present-Tense
Example- Clothing and Armor: Deedlit wears a short green dress, matching blue boots and gloves, an elven steel breastplate with large shoulder guards and a flowing cape attached. Her dress is a light green elven weave of silk and falls to mid thigh. The collar is high and embroidered in gold designs down to her breasts. The dress is sleeveless, and slightly loose, but it is held tight at her waist by her sword belt. Deedlit's armor consists of a small breastplate and very large shoulder guards, all elven steel and dark matte blue, trimmed in gold designs. Attached to her shoulder plates is a long, flowing cape that's blue on the outside and orange on the reverse side. For boots, she has a pair of dark blue, knee high boots with some gold designs around the top. Her gloves match, made of the same dark blue material and trimmed in gold. On her brow, Deedlit wears a gold circlet set with three magenta stones.

Weapon Description
Now, this field is not to list your character's weapons, but to describe their appearance. This can be just a couple sentences if your weapon is plain and simple, but if you have an elaborate weapon, this is the place for you to describe it.
Points to remember
- Material. What is the weapon made of? Is it a fine steel blade? A dwarven steel ax? An oak bow?
- Size: How long is the blade? How wide is the ax? How long is the bow?
- Condition: Are there chips in the metal? Is it dull or sharp?
- Details: Is the blade etched or clean? What material is the handle or grip made of?
Writing Requirements- Minimum of two sentences for a nondescript, plain weapon. Separate paragraphs for each weapon described.
- Present-Tense
Example- Weapon: Deedlit's rapier is an elegant elven steel blade. Three feet of unblemished, pure steel make up the blade. The crossguard is gold plated, and the grip is made of dark blue leather that matches the rest of her outfit. There are some beaded designs around the pommel and crossguard.

Class
This is for selecting a basic RPG class. These classes set a basic set of skills, knowledge, and potential role in an adventuring party. The classes for Lodoss are listed on our classes page. If you can't find the class you want to play, it's probably not suitable for Lodoss, but you may suggest it to the moderators if you think it could work.
We generally don't allow multi-classing, we'd like to keep it simple. There may be some exceptions to this rule, but we don't need people thinking that they can make a Shamanist Fighter/Wizard/Rogue/Cleric/Warrior. If a character changes class, they can be listed as dual classed and will keep most, if not all of the skills from the last class.
Your character's occupation doesn't have to correspond with their class, but generally, they do. Occupation will be the next field.
Examples
- Class: Thief
- Class: Knight
- Class: Shamanist Fighter

Occupations
This is the field that explains what your character currently does for a living. Class sets skills and knowledge, occupation is what they actually do. There is a list of occupations, but these are only suggestions generally most things possible in a medieval world are available. Sometimes, their class can be their occupation, as with Mercenaries, Thieves, and Shamanist Fighters and Rangers. Characters don't need to have an occupations, they can just be unemployed wanderers or adventurers. Elves, grassrunners, and centaurs are likely to be unemployed and care little for human concepts of wealth, they get all they need from nature.
This field can also be used to expand the title or clarify their exact occupation. For example, a cleric must belong to a god, and a knight must have an order. Former occupations can be included. If your characters started out as an adventurer, but ended up becoming a thief, include the former occupation.
Examples
- Class: Rogue
Occupation: Mercenary
- Class: Shaman
Occupation: Shaman
- Class: Ranger
Occupation: Wanderer
- Class: Cleric
Occupation: Priestess of Marfa
- Class: Mercenary
Occupation: Mercenary, ex-Knight Helpful Links

Guild Membership
This field states what guilds your character is a member of. Most characters don't need a guild, but Mercenaries and Mages generally should be members of their respective guilds. Guilds provide means of finding work, companions, and anything a character of that occupation may need.
By being a member of a Mercenaries' Guild, a mercenary can be hired for better and better jobs as long as they are a member. Mages in the Mages' Guild can share knowledge and help the guild acquire magical items and tomes for study. Higher ranks in the guild mean better opportunities. To decide your character's guild rank, visit the guilds page to see the qualifications they need to attain rank.
Examples
- Guild Membership: Mercenaries' Guild (3)
- Guild Membership: Thieves' Guild (2)
- Guild Membership: Warriors' Guild (6)

Weapons
Earlier, you were asked to describe your character's weapons. Here, you are asked to list them. Keep it as simple as possible. Don't mention any of the designs, or colors, just list what they have. You may include the material that the weapons are made of, just restrain the details. You've probably already explained them.
Why the long description AND a list? This list is for reading at-a-glance. If someone wants to just check to see what weapons your character has, they'll look here instead of reading through the description and pick out the weapons.
If you character has no weapons and is a non-combatant or fist fighter, say "None".
Examples
- Weapons: Elven Steel Rapier, Yew Short Bow, Quiver of Elven Arrows

Armor
As with weapons, this list is for at-a-glance reading as well. Simply list the pieces of armor your character wears and their material. Do not list clothing. If your character wears no armor, simply put "none" in the field.
Examples
- Armor: Studded Leather Hauberk, Steel Bracers
- Armor: Standard Issue Valisian Armor; Breastplate, Pauldrons, Bracers, Waist guard, Tassets, Leg Greaves, Solleret Boots, Helm

Equipment
This field is for you to list all items and gear your character carries that isn't a weapon, armor, or magical. Magic items will be listed in the magic section, if you have any. Things that belong in this section are packs, bedding, extra clothes, jewelry and adornments, musical instruments, weapon and armor care items, personal care items, food and water rations. Do not list money because that changes too easily.
Just write this as a list, as the example below shows. Don't describe any of the items. If you feel they need a description, put it under clothing and armor or weapons. Jewelry should be described in the clothing and armor section, and musical instruments could be described under weapons.
Points to Remember
- Do not list weapons and armor here. You've already listed them, you don't need to again. Do not list magic items here.
- Do not describe these items, only list them.
- Keep it simple. When listing clothes, you don't need to list each article, just say "clothes".
- Do not list money.
Examples- Equipment: Backpack; bedroll, clothing, hairbrush, necklace, flute, dice, a week of biscuit rations, waterskin, coin purse, 50 feet of rope

Magic SystemThis basic fields states which magic system your character will be using. There may be very rare cases of multiple magic classes, but this mainly only applies to shamans who have become clerics as well; a dark elven priest of Falaris, for example. Examples- Magic System: Shamanism
- Magic System: Sorcery
- Magic System: Clerical

Special Fields for Magic
Shamanism: Special Summons
This field actually isn't on the application in most cases, but it is on the profile and may be used later. It's used to state any contracts with king spirits. Generally, starting characters don't get special summons, but they can make a contract in the game, which is why this field is on the profile. The king spirits are Ento, Djinn, Efreet, Kraken and Behemoth. Read more about them on the spirits page.
Examples
Helpful LinksSorcery: Schools of Sorcery There are three schools, or groups, under sorcery, each vastly different. Arcane is the main form of sorcery, and is based on remnants of Kastuulian sorcery. Necromancy is the practice of summoning demons and the dead, and is outlawed through most of Lodoss, it is also often used by evil clerics, or sorcerers of the arcane school. The Natural school is mostly self-taught, and used by witches and barbarian warlocks. Examples- School of Sorcery: Arcane
Helpful LinksClerical: Patron God Unlike Special Summons, this one is always on the application for a priest. Simply, this is the god your priest follows. Falis, Falaris, Marfa, Kardis, Cha Za, and Rada are the main gods worshiped, though there are smaller cults for Baylos and Barbas. Examples- Patron God: Falis
- Patron God: Marfa
- Patron God: Kardis
- Patron God: Cha Za
- Patron God: Baylos

Magic Items
This is a field will only be added if you state that your character has a magic item. It will be on the profile, regardless, in case your character gains a magic item in the game.
Please keep in mind that modern Lodoss magic is not very advanced, so some items that you might find in D&D would not exist in Lodoss. Each case is judged separately by power of the item, the character's history and any other elements that make a difference. Players should limit themselves to one magic item or enchantment, unless they are playing a sorcerer who may have up to three magic items or enchantments.
First, state what your magic item is, then describe it's magical properties. Describe the appearance in either clothing and armor or the weapon description field earlier in the application. Put the appearance there so if an artist wants to draw your character, they won't overlook the item. You must thoroughly describe ALL magic properties of the items and what they do. For each item, start a new paragraph. There is no sentence length, just write as much as necessary. Some items may only need one sentence, some may need a whole paragraph.
Most magic items have been imbued through sorcery. Shamans rarely enchant items as a shamanist enchantment often requires trapping a spirit, which is frowned upon by most shamans, save dark elves. Clerics may bless weapons and items of adventurers who visit their temples, and these blessings will give slight advantages of luck or damage against unholy foes.
Magic items and enchantments which affect the character physically may give bonuses or subtractions to stats. For example, a Cha Za blessing can increase Luck five or ten points.
Points to Remember
- Appearance of magic items should be put in the Clothing and Armor, or Weapon description fields higher up on the application. (In the case of tattoos, describe in Physical Description.)
- Separate each item with a paragraph, stating which item is being described at the beginning.
Writing Requirements- As many sentences as necessary to fully describe magical properties.
- Present-Tense
Examples- Magic Item: Sword - Parn's sword, Heaven's Saviour is a weapon of immense power. This greatsword was once held by King Fahn of Valis, and is heavily enchanted. The sword is said to have been "touched by the breath of Falis", though when this occurred is not known. What is known is that this sword is the opposing sword of the Demon Sword Soul Crusher. When the two weapons get with in three kilometers of each other, both swords glow and shimmer brightly, Heaven's Saviour glowing a brilliant white.
Self - Parn has been blessed by a priest of Falis. This blessing gives him slightly greater luck and deters unholy beings to a small degree, though Heaven's Saviour is a better deterant. Helpful Links

Stats Stats may be mandatory, but don't fret. They won't be obviously used in the game. When we experimented with them as optional, we discovered that it made things a little easier behind the scenes when characters had a defined range of abilities. Now, we can just look at these stats quickly and see where a character stands without having to interpret the written description. The stats we use are taken from the original Sword World RPG, where the whole Lodoss story started. A lot of players are familiar with D&D and other "table top" RPGs, as well as stats in video games, so most of you will probably know what they're good for. - Strength (ST) determines attack power, how much they can carry, things of that nature.
- Endurance (EN) would determine hit points if we used them, or how much punishment your character can take. A high endurance stat for a magic user would mean they would be able to feel less exhausted as they drain their mana pool.
- Agility (AG) will determine speed, acrobatics, dodging, and movement in general.
- Intelligence (IN), of course, a measurement of smarts; important especially for magic users.
- Luck (LU) is one unique to Lodoss, luck will determine things like gambling success, the chances of attacks hitting your character, and even good or bad things happening to your character. It's a very handy stat to build on when you can get blessings from priests of a god of luck.
- Physical Beauty (PB) is useful, if all else, to show your character's level of attractiveness. Since there was no Charisma stat for Lodoss characters, this can play into it, but this is NOT a Charisma stat.
The average person should be considered to have a basic 10 in all stats, but nobody is really like that. Most characters should have at least one stat 10 or below, or at most 11. You can choose to emphasize on important stat upwards of 18, such as strength for a warrior, agility for a rogue, or intelligence for a mage. Stats in the 20's should be reserved for well experienced characters, though some special cases may apply. These special cases will be awarded bonuses by the moderators. Races do have some benefits in certain areas. The average of 10 applies to humans, evening them out well. Dwarves are high in strength and endurance, though often lack in agility and intelligence (not that they're stupid or anything, they just aren't prime magic user candidates). Elves have high agility and intelligence and are low in strength and endurance. A berserker or were-wolf will have a special set of stats when they are possessed or transformed, respectively. A berserker, when possessed by Hyuri, will not feel pain—which is a major restraint to normal people when it comes to your full potential for strength—and are pumped with adrenaline. Their strength will increase significantly (I mean SIGNIFICANTLY—you saw the craters left by Orson in the anime!), intelligence will drop extremely low, endurance will go up (though once they come down, they'll be affected by wounds). Agility and the other stats won't be affected....well, beauty might go down, but does what does that matter when you have a snarling, white-eyed berserker with likely a very large weapon barreling toward you? Were-wolves as well see similar changes, though not to the same extremes. They may get up to a +10 to strength when transformed, but that depends on their strength before hand. They'll get at most a +5 boost to agility and endurance and a possible -10 to intelligence. For both berserkers and were-wolves, the bonuses and subtractions will depend on their stats before hand. Each stat is default set at 8. You will be given 24 more points to use, and you are allowed to subtract points from the basic 8. You do not need to use all 24 points. Use your pool of 24 points to add to each stat. Remember, this is 24 points for the ENTIRE set of 6 stats, not 24 for every stat. Examples- Deedlit
ST: 12 EN: 9 AG: 15 IN: 12 LU: 13 PB: 13
- Parn
ST: 13 EN: 10 AG: 12 IN: 9 LU: 16 PB: 13

History Your character's history is one of the most important aspects of their self, because what they've experienced makes them who they are. Besides what the history means to the character, it is also the best show of your writing abilities. I want you to put most of your effort into the history and really flesh out your character. What I expect is the life story of your character, compressed into several paragraphs. While you could write a novel on anyone's life, I only need to hear important events. I expect you to start from the beginning at birth, conception, or even earlier with a short tale of the family line—which ever is most important. I want to know a little about their childhood, especially if they experienced anything important or traumatizing. Talk about when and why they left home, what relationships they've had, what battles they've fought. What I do not want is a history comprised of only one crucial event. Points to Remember- Conception or Birth. Start out with their parents. Mention where they lived and what they did for a living. You are encouraged to name your character's parents and siblings. If they have older siblings, mention them, and include names and ages at your character's birth.
- Childhood. How were they raised? Did they suffer any abuse or discrimination? Did they have a wonderful childhood? Was it just an average childhood? Did they have any siblings born during this time (if so, include names and the year, or age of your character at their sibling's birth)?
- Setting out. Mention when and why they set out from home.
- Historical involvement. Where was your character during the wars? How did these wars affect them?
- Adult life. Include any important relationships or events.
- Current. Leave off at a point where your character will begin in the game. Be sure to mention what region they'll be in, unless it's possible they could be anywhere in Lodoss.
Writing Requirements- At least two paragraphs of about 5 sentences for the most youthful characters with uneventful lives.
- Past-Tense
Examples- History:
Leaf was born in Kanon to a human mother and elven father of the Kanon forests. They were both adventurers, and fell very deeply in love. They settled down to raise their daughter in the Kanon village of Karral, but early in her childhood, Leaf's father was killed by dark elves. Her mother vowed revenge and left Leaf in the care of her sister so she could hunt down her husband's murderers. She never returned.
As a child, Leaf was teased by the other children, but she always rose above it. Though her parents were absent, she relied on their love. She knew her father was dead, but she always held out hope that her mother was still alive, however unlikely it was. In Leaf's early teens, the village she lived in with her Aunt, Karral, was razed by the Marmo. Her aunt was killed, but Leaf and the surviving villages were led to safety by Parn, Deedlit, and the Kanon Free Army. In their escape, it became necessary for the refugees to pass through the Forest of No Return. For the entire journey, Leaf had covered her ears, making her half-elven nature a secret. When the refugees entered the Forest, they all became trapped by the forest's curse, except for Deedlit and Leaf.
Deedlit had never encountered a half-elf before and was quite intrigued, especially since she had entertained the thought of one day having a child with Parn. Deedlit brought Leaf to the high elf village where she intended to convince the elder to release the curse so the refugees to pass through. The other high elves were curious and apprehensive about Leaf, but she surprised them all with her unfaltering positive attitude, despite the hardships she endured as a half-elf in human society.
All ended well for the refugees in the Forest of No Return. Deedlit tutored Leaf in shamanism before they parted ways, and Leaf went onto Flaim. With no family, the half-elf had to turn to mercenary work at the young age of fourteen. She still hoped to find her mother, as well as Deedlit and Parn, and hopefully, a dashing knight of her own. She found a place in the Blade Mercenaries' Guild and did a few odd jobs, during one, she met Garrack. They developed a sort of love-hate relationship during their time together.
When the Soul Crystal Ball was stolen from Castle Akroyd, Leaf was hired by King Kashue to help Spark recover it. There, she joined up again with Garrack as well as Spark, a priest of Myrii Greivas and sorcerer Aldonova. They made their way through the desert on the trail of the Ball and stayed in a fort on their first night. Here, the met Ryna and Little Neese who became Leaf's good friends.
After the War of the Destroyer's Resurrection, Spark was named Duke of Marmo and brought his old friends with him. Here, Leaf and Garrack would become Spark's personal guard, Neese his wife and founder of a new Marfa temple, Aldonova his court mage, Ryna would become the secret head of a new Thieves' Guild, and Greivas would help found a Myrii temple.

Personality
Personality is one of the last fields on the application because you don't really know your character until you've written their past. After deciding race, homeland, occupation, magic, and history, you should understand them well enough to describe their personality. What I'm looking for is a psych-analysis, at least to the best of your ability to describe a person's psychological state. Do not just list personality traits. Describe how they act, how social they are, their mental strengths and weaknesses, fears and desires.
Points to Remember
- How do people perceive the character and how true is this to who the character is at their core? Do they put up a fa?ßade, or wear their heart on their sleeve?
- Is the character social or introverted?
- What are they afraid of?
- What kind of relationships do they seek, or not seek?
- What sort of goals do they have?
Writing Requirements- At least three sentences for a character who has suffered little in their lives and have very little depth to their personality.
- Present-Tense
Examples- Personality: Leaf is playful and exuberant, and has a positive outlook on life. Proud of what she is, she wont hide evidence of her elven heritage. Though she suffered some persecution from humans as a child, the love her parents had for her was her support. Often, she flaunts her elven beauty and brags about her long life span around humans. She isn't looking for much, just to enjoy life and explore, but she does hope to one day have a knight of her own, like Deedlit has in Parn. She was attracted to Spark, but gave up her feelings for him when he proved to love Neese.
