Frequently Asked Questions (RPG)
Storyline Questions
Which series continuity does Eiyuu Kishi Den follow?EKD follows the true timeline of Lodoss that was laid out in the novels, though we are based on the anime. We don't follow just the OAV, or Chronicles. The OAV was a compressed series of events, made to encompass several series of novels and fit them into 13 episodes. For the true storyline, watch episodes 1-8, omitting the meeting of Shiris and Orson, then all of Chronicles. This is our continuity.
The game is not directly based on the manga, or at least not on the Grey Witch or the Chronicles of the Heroic Knight manga. The anime and manga have some distinct differences. However, we do include Lady of Pharis, Demon of Flame, and Deedlit's Tale in the history of our game. We do not have access to the novels, so our game is not directly based on them either.
This game accepts Legend of Crystania as a part of the Lodoss saga, though the story shown in the anime does not happen for another 300 years. We do accept that Ashram, Pirotess, Groder, Maar, and Hobb all left Lodoss in accordance with the series.
What is/was/happened to the Chaos Wars? The Chaos War was the first plot we experimented with. It ran for about three years, but after awhile, it became stale and members started losing interest. I realized this and brought up the problem to the group, and it was agreed that most players were bored of the story and wanted something new.
The Chaos War plot has absolutely no impact on the current game. As far as the current game is concerned, the Chaos War NEVER HAPPENED.
You can read the old posts from the Chaos War in the archives section.
When does the game take place? The year of 530 (by the New Royal Calender). This is five years after the War of the Destroyer's Resurrection (end of Chronicles of the Heroic Knight).
What is the game's plot? There are several plots in the game. We found that one all encompassing plot for the entire game was too hard to deal with when you have around 70 characters involved in it. There are a few unique plots in the game, which will allow players to explore Lodoss without having to conform too much to a greater plot, like the Chaos War. You can read up on what's going on in the game currently in the storylines section.
Can I have my own storyline? We are open to starting new plots, and it will need to be discussed with the moderators, but the biggest problem to starting a new plot will be to find players. Due to the increasing obscurity of Record of Lodoss War, we have a hard time finding new players. You also can't count on existing players willing to make a new character just to join your plot.
Game Questions
How do I play?Eiyuu Kishi Den is a written forum RPG. It's played by writing posts for your characters including their actions, dialog, and thoughts, in response to posts by other players for their characters. It is a shared story, each player contributes actions from their characters in order to follow a plot line. As you can imagine, this game is best for people who love writing.
What writing styles are acceptable in the game? The game posts should be written in the third person (or narrative) point of view and in past tense. Mind your spelling and grammar, and spellcheck your posts if you feel you need to. Your posts must be clear and understandable. If English is your second language and you aren't quite fluent in it, or if you have some sort of learning disorder relating to language skills, you may want to reconsider joining.
Also, if you dare use "netspeak" on my forum (or God forbid, in character), I will remove and ban you so fast, you won't know what hit you.
What do the abbreviations OOC, IC, PC and NPC mean?- OOC: Out Of Character. This is used in a game post to signify a note or comment the player has left to other players. OOC notes should be placed at either the beginning or end of a post, a paragraph apart from the main body.
- IC: In Character. This is used to show that the OOC note is finished and the game post is starting. Use it after an OOC message, unless your OOC message is in a smaller font or different font color or style to make it stand out.
- PC: Player Character. This abbreviation is used as a short hand way to distinquish a player character from a non-player character (see next) in discussion.
- NPC: Non-Player Character. NPCs are characters that require no development and are used by players for any number of reasons. Merchants, innkeepers, barmaids, and townsfolk characters encounter are all NPCs. See the NPCs page for more information on who can use NPCs and what counts as an NPC.
Characters are assigned stats more for background use than actually using them in game. A number value is a good way to give an abstract description a concrete meaning. By looking at stats, you can determine if another person's character is stronger or weaker than yours, how attractive someone may be, how lucky they will be if gambling, etc.
Character Creation Questions
These are some basic questions. For more on this subject, see the Character Creation FAQ.
What characters are open? Can I play a character from the series?Eiyuu Kishi Den expects its members to play their own original characters. We respect the continuity of the anime, which has left many canon characters unavailable as PCs. So, characters that died in the series, left for Crystania, or became royalty or nobility are not playable. Nearly all the canon characters are not playable because they have been written out in one way or another and will only appear as NPCs. You must create your own character.
How do I create a character? To create a character, you must write a character profile using our application. The application can be found on the Apply Here board on the forum. The profile describes your character's appearance, equipment, abilities, life history, and personality. It is expected to be well-written and expansive, revealing all necessary information to the moderators. Once you're finished, your profile will be checked over by the moderators and voted on. You may be asked to revise certain parts, or you may be approved instantly. Very rarely do we deny anyone before they have the chance to revise.
